Soup that meant something deeply personal to PAGE 9
them not just because of the recipes themselves,
but because of how the soup had changed them.
My story of becoming a soup lady is a product
of circumstance and my training, but it is not the
only meaningful story of becoming held within
these pages. It also belongs to each of the cooks
who looked to Soup Club when it arrived on their
doorstep at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic,
but not just; it includes those they bring to their
table, or keep in mind while ladling out a jar with
the hope of giving love or healing to. I hope these
stories of soup cooks in kitchens around the
country, strangers who rolled up their sleeves to
make soup but ended up making so much more,
bring you to your kitchen. There, your own soup
story awaits. I am honored to be a part of it.
